OOTD from this past Friday

Happy weekend! Here’s an outfit post from this past Friday. Yay casual days! I’ve been having a hard time deciding what to wear because of the changing temperatures and the variations in the office temperature so I’ve been wearing a lot of layers. It was nice to just be able to throw on a top and jeans and call it a day, and I wasn’t too hot or too cold!

Neutral makeup look (not the greatest lighting, sorry!)

Top: Lilly Pulitzer “Liv” top (no longer available – similar) | Jeans: 7 For All Mankind Roxanne | Shoes: Adrienne Vittadini Pansy Pump from DSW

My top and jeans were both from RueLaLa and were about half the price that they would sell for regularly! Yay bargains!

OOTD, whale sweater edition

I’m really into this whale print sweater. It’s such a weird thing that I just had to buy it (at J. Crew, and it was on sale!) as soon as I saw it.

Of course, I got coffee splatters on my white pants as soon as I got to work >_____>, but they were still fine when I took these pictures! And it did wash out in the end!

Sweater: J. Crew (looks like it’s sold out, this one is similar) | Pants: White House Black Market (they only have the ankle length ones at this point) | Flats: J. Crew (sold out, these are similar and on sale!) | Bracelet: Forever21, old | Earrings: Groupon Goods

Hope everyone is enjoying some warmer weather where you are! It’s been pretty nice here recently and spring is finally starting to happen.

OOTD(s), flat shoes edition

This past weekend, I stubbed my toe so hard that it was red and swollen for days afterward. It was  very painful. In fact, it’s still a little sore today on Thursday. So I’ve been stuck in boring flat shoes for the past few days.

Mint polka dot blazer – Kohl’s (old, this one from Modcloth is similar but in white and gray) | Tee – J. Crew Factory | Skirt – Express (this one from Kohl’s is fairly similar) | Shoes – Kohl’s (old, and fairly unique)!) | Jewelry – Target, Groupon Goods, etc.

And another outfit!

Shirt and scarf – Kohl’s (similar) | Pants – J. Crew (similar) | Shoes – Can’t remember, but these from Target are similar | Bracelet – Vintage

Lighting’s a little off but here’s a makeup picture!

OOTD, tights in late March edition

The calendar says Spring but the weather says JANUARY! I’m told this will be the end of it, so keep your fingers crossed, I guess.

Cable knit tights and a sweater on March 25? Well, OK, I guess.

Sweater: Old | Skirt: Banana Republic (similar, also similar but perhaps out of stock) | Tights: Kohl’s | Shoes: Adrienne Vittadini (DSW) | Necklace: Kohl’s, worn in many previous OOTD’s before (similar)

Glasses day! My blush in this pic is NYX Mosaic Powder Blush in Dare. I like it because it’s a little different than the pink blush I usually wear and has a bit of a bronzed tone to it.

And my nails this week are Zoya Perrie, which is very close to Radiant Orchid, the Pantone color of the year!

OOTD, wrap dress edition

I finally took OOTD pics with my BR Gemma wrap dress! I bought this back in January and still haven’t worn it in an OOTD. It’s been unbelievably cold here lately — tomorrow is the first day of Spring, and today the high was low 40s and rainy. At this rate, the cherry blossoms will bloom around Memorial Day. Not to mention, this was our view on St. Patrick’s Day:

So I guess that’s why I don’t feel too weird about wearing a long-sleeved dress with boots in March. We still have snow on the ground! And could even get more before the month is over!

Dress: Banana Republic (on sale for $69!) | Boots: No idea — I’ve had them for some time, and there aren’t many boots left in stores this time of year! | Accessories: Necklace is Pandora and was a gift, and I am wearing a simple Tiffany ring on my right hand

As you can see in the above pictures, the dress actually comes to right above the knee. In the picture on BR’s website, it is much shorter. I am 5’8″ so I’m not super short. If you wanted a shorter dress like it shows in the picture, I don’t think this is it.

For eye makeup, I actually wore light green eyeshadow — Mac Lucky Green! You can’t see it too well in these pictures but I liked the fact that it was something a little more colorful and less neutral.

So although I want nothing more than to be in short sleeves and capris, I guess I’ll stick to dresses with boots for now! It will be spring soon … I think … Hah.

OOTD, still not warm enough edition

It’s March and it’s still really cold. We’ve been barely getting above freezing most days, although next week is forecast to be warmer … if they don’t change their mind first, that is. I’m looking forward to wearing heels again (they’re treacherous on our snow and ice-pack), and skirts, and bare legs. But until then, it’s pants and tops. Sigh.

Long shirt: Target  (I blogged about it in my February purchase round-up from a few days ago!)| Ponte pants: J. Crew (no longer available) | Shoes: Steve Madden, old

I’ve been doing brown eyeshadow and eyeliner the past few days, which is a good look for me because the more red-based browns really make green eyes pop. No filters on this image, just color correction because all my lighting is very warm toned!

Today I did a quick wash of theBalm Shameless Shana from the Shady Lady vol. 1 palette, and used Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes Pencil Eyeliner in 2L. And of course, mascara. 🙂

I’m looking forward to spring! It’s been great having all these random days off but spring will be so much better. Fortunately, the first sign of spring is already here as the Park Service has announced the projected peak bloom dates for the cherry blossoms: April 8-12. Which is a good week or two later than we’ve been averaging over the past number of years — last year it was late because we had a late burst of winter in March, but this year it’s just been cold all around ever since January!

OOTD, errand running edition

We benefited from some great weather (well, great for this time of year and based on the type of weather we’ve been having, so we’re grading on a curve here) this past weekend so we took advantage of it to run some errands. As such, I was looking to wear comfy clothes that weren’t overly warm because there’s nothing worse when you’re at Ikea than being too hot or being in uncomfortable shoes!

I know people don’t feel too great about leggings as pants, but whatever, I do it all the time. So long as your bum’s covered there’s no big deal in my opinion!

Top: H&M (very old, don’t know where else to get something like this! It’s between elbow and 3/4 sleeves and kind of a lightweight material) | Leggings: Kohl’s | Boots: Old from Kohl’s — I’ve worn these in previous outfits before. These Frye’s are similar as are these from Steve Madden (on sale!) And my bracelet was a gift for Christmas.

On my face, I am wearing Diorshow Fusion Mono eyeshadow in Hypnotique and Mac eyeshadow in Carbon; and my black eyeliner is from an old Glam Bag but it’s just a regular ol’ black pencil eyeliner so I think you could get the same effect with any type of black eyeliner. My blush is TheBalm Instain blush in Argyle and my lip gloss is Revlon ColorBurst in Honey.

Eye closeup: I was going for a fairly low effort, somewhat smoky eye look, so that meant plenty of black eyeliner and mascara.

I can’t wait for the Oscars tonight! Specifically, the fashion — I don’t bother with the actual awards show, hah.

OOTD, still not warm edition

BRRR! We’re in for another deep freeze in the DC area — with highs barely above freezing which is way below normal for this time of year. We could get snow this week, and snow next week too, which will be absolutely awful for the cherry blossoms. Canada needs to take their polar vortex back any time now!

So it’s been a bunch of sweaters and cords, when I’d rather be breaking out the capris. But that’s ok. Maybe we’ll get a long spring/summer to make up for it.

Shirt: Express (no longer available in leopard — these are fairly similar and affordable: Forever 21, Lord & Taylor (on sale!) | Skinny cords: Banana Republic (these are very similar and on sale – $29.99!) | Silver and gold sequin flats: Old from Kohl’s

I can’t remember any of my makeup — how sad is that? But I do know my eyeliner is Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes in 2L, which is a really great color if you have green eyes — this shade of brown will really make them pop.

I’m so bored of sweaters and pants — but there’s no end to winter in sight so it’s too soon to start thinking spring!

OOTD – weather changing edition

We had some actually warmer temps here today after being  below freezing for what seemed like ages! (OK, we definitely had some days above freezing there … like getting dumped on with 8-10″ of snow one day and 50 the next day … crazy …) I wanted to wear a sweater I bought from Banana Republic that I wasn’t sure about, but decided to keep. It ended up being warm enough today (high near 60) that I didn’t even need to wear a jacket!

Here’s an up-close of the sweater and shirt, and my jewelry. This is a Banana Republic sweater worn with a tie-front tee underneath. I mentioned in my original post about this sweater that it’s somewhat sheer so the tee underneath is a nice way to deflect from the sheer while being more interesting than a regular tank.

Nothing special on the makeup today. I wore my glasses so it’s really hard for me to do eye makeup beyond basic eyeliner/mascara. I basically can’t see at all if I’m not wearing glasses/contacts so doing eye makeup with glasses is like … an exercise in muscle memory, basically.

In this pic you can also see my new necklace from Target!

Sweater: Banana Republic | Tie-neck tee: Forever 21 (old)  — this one from ModCloth may be similar | Pants: Express — they don’t seem to make the wider-leg pants anymore, but I own these from Kohl’s and I would say the fit is similar | Shoes: AK Anne Klein, purchased at DSW — these are similar and a similar price | Necklace: Target | Bracelets: Originally from Forever 21 and from Groupon Goods — These two from Forever 21 are similar (1), (2)

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Sparkly flats OOTD

This is an outfit I wore earlier this week and am just now getting around to blogging, but it’s not like it much matters because it’s been just that cold and gray every day that I could have worn this outfit last week, or two weeks ago, or this coming week, and it would be fine every time. Ugh, where are you spring?!

My sweater is from New York & Company, but it’s a few years old and I don’t think they sell it any more. This one from Express is similar in style, and this one from Tommy Hilfiger (at Macy’s) is similar in color but is cable-knit. I have no idea where the shirt is from, but it’s probably H&M. I like the way their button-front shirts fit as they aren’t too big through the waist. Khaki pants and sparkly shoes are both J. Crew. Here’s a similar pair of pants;  and sadly, the shoes are no longer available and I can’t find anything else just like them on their website.

Makeup pic:

I’m obsessed with this eye shadow color — it’s DiorShow Fusion Mono in Hypnotique. It’s such an interesting color because it manages to be both a plummy purple and a brownish-gray taupe. It also wears like iron — seriously, if I had taken a makeup picture at 6 when I got back from work I think it would have looked nearly the same!
