March purchase round-up

I can’t believe we’re at the end of March already! I really did not buy that much stuff this month (but April is already looking good because of the Sephora 15% off sale!) but let’s take a look anyway.

This top from Macy’s. The brand is INC and I bought it in a bright pink color that looks like it’s not available online, but it is available in blue, black, gray, and white. I haven’t worn it yet because our weather has been atrocious and the fabric is pretty thin. Soon!

Camomile Cleansing Oil from The Body Shop. This is my first cleansing oil and I have to say, I really like it! It gets the makeup off your skin and doesn’t feel drying at all. This last month my skin has been feeling very dry and I notice a difference when I use this vs. using a regular cleanser.

(I also picked up a regular moisturizer and Tea Tree Oil when I was there, but those are not so exciting, right? But if you’ve never used tea tree oil, and you have acne, I would highly recommend trying it. I’m at the age where I have both acne and dryness [seriously how is that possible?!] and so it’s a challenge finding acne products that actually work yet aren’t too drying and tea tree oil definitely fits the bill.)

And like 5 nail polishes!

From Sephora:

Formula X Solar Flare

Formula X Light My Fire

Solar Flare was good, but Light My Fire chipped within a day. However, I tried using it alone so maybe that was the problem. I think it would look better as a top coat over another nail polish.

Zoya nail polishes in Perrie (a purple shade very close to the color of the year), Laurie (light pink), and Josie (green creme). This was when they were doing their Buy 2, Get 1 Green shade free + free shipping for St. Patrick’s Day so all 3 came to $18 total, not bad πŸ™‚

Bucco “Tonkis” boots in Cognac. I actually bought these from HauteLook. I ordered them at the end of February and they arrived at the end of March! I like HauteLook’s prices but I don’t love their shipping …

Adrienne Vittadini “Pansy” pump. I wore these in an OOTD and they are really comfortable and cute.

Unfortunately I don’t think I”ll be wearing a ton of heels this week because I stubbed my toe big time on our coffee table, and it’s completely red and swollen. (The 4th toe, not the big toe, so I don’t think it’s that serious.) Fortunately we’re in for some nicer weather this week so I think I will stick to mostly open toed shoes and sandals for a few days.

What about you guys? What did you haul this month? And what are you looking forward to next month?

February 2014 Purchase Round-Up

Here we are at the end of another month — and I swear it’s colder at the end of this month than it was at the end of January! With no end in sight to winter, I’m still buying winter-type clothes. I seriously think that by this time last year I was wearing capris!

OS Whetherly Top from Target. I bought this in a size small because I was looking for a more generous fit. It looks really good over skinny pants and leggings — I’m really liking the flowy top over very fitted pants look in general.

Lauren Conrad star chiffon blouse. I really liked this. The star pattern is cute but not overly in your face. It also comes in off white with black stars. The fabric is lightweight and slightly sheer so it might need a tank or cami underneath it.

Apt. 9 Striped Maxi Dress. I liked the fit on this, although the size Small definitely fit on the looser side. But they didn’t have the color that I wanted in the XS so whatever, I knew it would work well enough. The Small is workable but it is somewhat large around the waist. The fabric is stretchy enough that it doesn’t make a huge difference so I would say if you’re between sizes it’s OK to size up or size down, depending on your fit preference or just what they have in stock in your size.

I picked up these earrings at Target but haven’t worn them yet. I liked them for the pastel colors for Spring. You know, whenever Winter decides to give up the ghost …

Ulta had their 20% off coupon at the beginning of the month so I stocked up on some basics — Seche Vite, dry shampoo, a new hairbrush … nothing too exciting. The only interesting thing that I bought was a nail polish, OPI Polka.com, which is a cool-toned blue, purple, and pink multi-color glitter from the Euro Centrale collection which was released I think last year, maybe. I layered it over a dark blue, and the glitter didn’t really show up too well. It’s a very thick formula, but the glitter doesn’t necessarily spread evenly across the nail without some serious help. I think it will work better over a silver, pink, or another lighter color, so I’ll try it again next month.

I think that mostly covers everything, except one thing I have to review in another post πŸ˜‰ Next month’s purchase plan is kind of already set — I’ve ordered some boots and a nail polish from Haute Look so they will arrive … well, whenever they arrive, Haute Look’s shipping is not the most reliable, LOL. In addition, I have a $25 gift card to Sephora burning a hole in my pocket! I’m thinking I want to try one of their new nail polishes — the Formula X Liquid Crystals.

I hope that by the end of March I can be out of the winter rut of sweaters and flats/boots, and into dresses, heels, etc. at work. But it looks like we’re going to get yet another storm to start the month of March, and then cold temps for days and days afterward … so I’m not optimistic …

What did you guys haul this month? Anything good? Are you looking forward to Spring, or are you still a fan of Winter?

January purchase round-up

Here are my clothes/beauty purchases from January 2014. Can’t believe we’re already one month into the new year! I hope that February brings some higher temperatures because I am so bored of wearing pants, sweaters, and flats/boots every single day. But I’d rather not freeze all day at work so long pants it is, I guess. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to wear all my new stuff in OOTD posts soon!

From Banana Republic I ordered:

“Anna” Merino Wool cardigan in black — I generally get a size XS in most BR stuff, but I read some reviews that suggested to size up if you’re between sizes and want to wear their cardigan with a long sleeved top underneath so I ordered the S instead. I think it was the right decision, as when I tried it on I noticed there would be enough room through the back, shoulders, and upper arms to accommodate a long sleeved shirt. But at the same time, it didn’t seem to be too big through the waist.

Extra-fine Merino Wool Vee in Orange — I ordered this in an XS but I am not sure if I love the fit. Maybe I should have sized up here too. But more than that, I wasn’t happy with the quality, the fabric is thinner than you would expect and it’s basically see-through through the chest. Yikes! This one may go back to the store, I don’t know yet.

Gemma Geo-Print Wrap Dress — I also ordered this in an XS. The fit is appropriate. I think the S would have been far too big through the waist. I have a faux-wrap dress from Kohl’s in a size S and I end up having to pull it extra across my waist or else it gaps through the chest, which is so not a good look. I will say when I tried it on it was longer than the photo, which is fine by me, I don’t like my dresses to be much above the knee anyway.

From J. Crew I ordered these items:

Boy Shirt in bird print — This is super cute in person. The print isn’t “in your face” but it’s definitely noticeable up close. I ordered a size 2 and it fit perfectly, just like the rest of the J. Crew size 2 shirts that I own. The fabric is quite thin so I imagine I’ll have to be somewhat careful washing it, but on the plus side, the silk/cotton blend doesn’t seem like it will get extremely wrinkly.

Kiki glitter ballet flats — I ordered these in the dark blue color, but it looks like they’re out. I got the 8.5 (marked as 8H on the website, but when you get the box it says 8.5 … stop being so difficult J. Crew!) and though I haven’t worn them out, have just tried them on, they seemed to fit well.

I also made a special trip to TJ Maxx this month to pick up a new purse, and ended up with this Michael Kors tote in a gorgeous medium green.

It’s a very good size inside, very roomy but yet the bag itself is not heavy which is awesome.

Side note, I love TJ Maxx for purses. Between TJ Maxx and the outlets, I own 2 Kate Spades, a Coach, and a Michael Kors, all of which I’ve bought since 2010, and I haven’t paid full price for any of it. I’m so spoiled, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pay full retail for a handbag ever again unless it was something high-end and even then, RueLaLa and Gilt sometimes have deals anyway.

Also, sunglasses. I don’t remember the brand on these but it’s nothing special. They were about $10. My old pair broke, and my backup pair was starting to leave red marks on the bridge of my nose!

I also bought 5 nail polishes, 2 from Butter London which I bought on Hautelook and 3 from Zoya through their “3 free” promo. I haven’t had a chance to use them apart from Fishwife which I reviewed a few posts ago.

Whew! I think I need to go on a spending freeze next month … Aw who am I kidding, I already spent $60 at Ulta today, lol. But maybe after that?

What did you guys haul this month? Any good purchases?
